A year Later

by Nacho 21. April 2011 20:18

So, its been one year since i've posted things have been really crazy. First of all I have switched jobs and loving the new job! I do have to work with VB6 but the environment is better.

Start working with MVC3 and I am absolutly loving it. There are a ton of cool feature that Microsoft has included, I really enjoy the fact that they have seen the uses for jQuery which is by far my favorite thing to use for a website. I'm not sure how I can get through not being able to build a website with it. Welp, just an update to keep things somewhat lively until the next time!

Long Time

by Nacho 26. April 2010 17:09

Its been a while since posting have had lots of things going on particularly me and my family took a trip to Disney World in Orlando, FL. The weather was nice, but it was a bit crowded from all the Spring Breakers'. Also, I've been working on a big project and since my vacation fell in the middle of the project I've playing catch ever since. Again I have to say that JQuery has been a great success and I am getting to the point of not being able to imagine life without it.

A small update from the last post. I have since dropped the Smart Modal Popup, which was a bit tough getting use to, to replace it with the JQuery UI option which is alot more flexable.

jQuery

by Nacho 7. April 2010 17:08

I started working with jQuery months ago but never had the chance to really use it in any of my applications. Well a new project I was assigned to at work popped up and I was finally able to starting really using it. For those of you who aren't familiar with jQuery you can find out more at their main website here. A qoute from the website "jQuery is designed to change the way that you write JavaScript."

At first it was kinda cool but the more you get use to the syntax the easier it becomes. It intergrates well with asp.net (which at my current job is mostly what I use) and is fun to work with

Currently i'm using a few of the jQuery plugins, one called Smart Modal which is popup helper (which takes some getting use to) and the other Validation. The latter was really cool until I realized that it intercepts all asp.net buttons. At first intercepting all the buttons was fine I could easily work around that but the further I get into the project and the more buttons that are added the bigger the jQuery code was getting for no reason. After some rewriting I decided to drop the Validation plugin (which is a great plugin, but it didn't work in my situation) from the project and do my own validation code.

So over all my first big project with jQuery so far has been a great success. It seems the more that I use it, the more I like it.
